• January 20, 2009 Weekly Awards!

    05:17am by Cheechoo (Site)

Hello vDreamers! I’m here to post the Awards of the Week – an easy way to make money! If you ever are the most active user, have the most losses, or have a unique car, all in the past week, you have a chance to win $5000 vDollars! Here goes:

Most Active: Dawid Szymczak, with 545 activity points. Keep up the good work, Dawid!

Most Losses: Eric Klewiada, with 274 losses. Go use the reward money to buy some go-fast goodies!

Car of the Week: Stephen Adamek, with a carbon fiber’d out Supra. Sick ride, Stephen, I bet that bad boy goes around the skidpad with a lot of G’s!

On a site-related note. Check out some brand new brake pads in the “wheels” section of the parts shop, and see how much your track times improve!

  • January 20, 2009

    Nice car, Stephen.

Lol, I stumbled on the break pads right after they came out. haha, sweet addition. Are transmissions next? I know there is the stock part. Or clutches… I know that some of these cars wouldn’t last long with their stock clutch.

Btw, I wouldn’t say this is the easiest way to earn money… I think its easier to spend $5 on ballons… or actually win races or log on daily… I mean i’m pretty damn active and never won this, so it must be difficult…. I guess i could lose that many races but thats more than half the races i’ve ever lost. lmao

The Matador Brake Pads seem to have different effects on different cars:

Saleen – Heavier Vette – No change Supra – Lighter

Can’t say I’ve noticed any real difference in track times yet though.

Yeah the weight addition/subtraction for brake pads is negligible. What they do is cut a large chunk off your braking distance, which helps in the track.

My guess is you are just making a big deal out of them possibly being named wrong. I have no clue when it comes to brake kits, but I suppose the pads, calipers, and the entire kit might be priced differently. Not a big deal and definitely not something to freak out about.

v$1000 only for brake pads is completely unrealistic.

however: you buy them only once per car and can race with them forever. real brake pads have a finite lifetime, these here last forever (i suppose?).

anyway, who cares about v$1000 ?

1000 vdream dollars isnt bad at all when you figure $5 got u the x-mas wreath and 50,000 vdream dollars. so comparatively thats real cheap in real money. because brembo pads for my integra are around 50-100. and the brake kit? just under 3 grand

Regarding “ZOMG UNREALISTIC BRAKE PADS ZOMG” http://www.andysautosport.com/honda/1997_2002_prelude/brakes/brake_pads/endless/endl00002795.html

This is a set of FRONT brake pads for a prelude. $479 for the pair. Other .002 second google searches will find you $300 for the rear pair. That’s $779 for all 4 pads. Say $~100-200 for installation, add the tax on the pads, you’re looking at over $900 bucks easy. So we’re talking about a v$100 markup.

    - 02:19am

    by Cheechoo

  • January 21, 2009

    And T-Hawk:

if you buy the trunk, it weighs less. the preview system is an estimate, and for some reason for certain parts it shows adding weight, without taking the stock part off.

    - 12:56am

    by Dwayne

Why would you want smaller brake rotors??? Doesn’t make sense!? The more area that the caliper has to clamp down on, makes for cooler rotors and overall better performance. So why in the world would you want smaller rotors when your brakes can easily determine a win or a loss in the track and oval races!?

i found out that the v$1000 braking pads DO improve average track time of my lambo by about 0.3 seconds. results based on ~20 races with pads (and a few more without pads for comparison). your mileage may vary, and so will mine over the next 20+ races – i wonder how long they last until i have to buy a new set LOL

    - 01:37pm

    by cattaco

  • January 21, 2009

    Cattaco,

It might not just be for the pads. Normally when you upgrade to racing brakes you upgrade the size of the rotors as well. Which means you need to buy the larger calipers. So for a grand i think we are actually stealing them from vDream. I know for a full setup of Brembo on my Yamaha R6 its $2000.

if you dont see an improvement in your track times then you should try the other brake pads and see if it helps. nobody said buying the most expensive parts will always give you the best results

    - 03:01am

    by Anonymous

  • January 22, 2009

my lambo is 0.3-0.4 secs (1) quicker on the track now (average). i woudn’t expect much more effect in real life on a 50-60 sec lap – unless you’re a real weenie and always brake early, and with the pads you feel so safe that you start to brake late. that’d be a psychological tuning then LOL

    1) based on 23 track races with v$1000 pads (vs some more with stock pads). might be too few races to count as statistically significant.

effect on 1/4M is close to zero (-0.013) as expected. endurance i only had 1 race with pads, so that result doesn’t count at all for comparison. i’d need a lot more endu challenges to get a decent amount of results LOL
