November 24, 2007 Attack of the R8

Today on a whim my brother and I decided to check out the SF auto show @ Moscone. Of course the car we were most interested in checking out was the Audi R8. The Audi exhibit was in Moscone north (exhibit hall D), in the center towards the back. As we made our way past Porsche towards the Audi booth we noticed a very large crowd standing around one of the displays. We assumed it was the R8 display so we made our way there and tried to get a view of the car. Let me just say that in person, this car is absolutely stunning. We had a hard time getting a full view of the car so we walked over to the Audi information booth and asked if we could get a closer look. I figured it was worth asking the question since I have one on order at Niello Audi in Sacramento. All of the marketing folks at the info booth were actually very friendly and they asked if we would like to sit in the car. Needless to say, my brother and I were ecstatic! Sitting in the drivers seat of the R8 is probably more like sitting in the cockpit of a F-16 fighter jet then anything else. Overall visibility is phenomenal, and everything about this car screams performance. It was a surreal experience sitting in the car with 50+ other car enthusiasts taking photos, and speaking quietly about how badly they want one. I think I now understand what it must be like to be a celebrity in Hollywood surrounded by paparazzi.

The R8 is the ultimate halo car for Audi. There is nothing like it, period. We spent two hours at the show trying to find a comparable car and we just couldn’t find one. I absolutely cannot wait till our car arrives in a few months! Here are the specs of the car we have on order:
