• September 08, 2009 McLaren's next car?

Oh wow. From Jalopnik, it looks like McLaren has finally produced their latest car since the vaunted F1. It’s the MP4-12C, a twin-turbo 3.8L V8 good for 600 hp and 443 lb-ft.

This car is sure to create the same kind of buzz that the F1 did in 1995. And they claim it has low carbon emissions! Not sure if their typical buyer cares about that sort of thing, though…

Its really cool looking…but these days, 600hp isn’t as great as it once was…

    wow. nice.

I get the feeling McLaren aren’t aiming to achieve the same feats the F1 managed.. but a nice car nonetheless.

look at this and then look at the new ferrari 458- they are nearly identical in shape. too bad this mclaren doesnt have the three seats with center driver. the back end is disappointing too…but it is still a mclaren…and it doenst look like something gordon murray would have engineered.

The new design definitely has the same profile as the F1 but the nose and side vents make it look a lot more aggressive and modern. If Mclaren sticks to the original vision that Gorden Murry had then this will automatically be an amazing car.

What alot of people don’t realize is that the F1 was not meant to be the worlds fastest supercar of the time. It was meant to be the best road car in the world. It just so happened that the design and engineering that went into it produced a extremely fast car.

And to the poster that said 600hp isn’t much these days. I just want to remind you that the original Mclaren F1 only had a little over 600hp and is only about 12mph that the 1000hp Bugatti Veyron. Its all about power to weight and aero dynamics and when you are pushing speeds over 200 then these things are absolutely key.
