• August 14, 2008 Olympic Fever! And Introducing vDream Collectibles!

    I don’t know about you guys, but I’ve been watching a lot of the Olympics lately. This got us here at the vDream Headquarters (also known as Starbuck’s or Tully’s or My Apartment) thinking that we should offer something Olympics-related. So we decided to make a few things:

    • Olympic Flags
    • Olympic Torch
    • Gold Medal

    The torch is something you can sport on your dashboard, the gold medal is something you can sport hanging from your rear view mirror, and the flags are on the outside of your car. We offer the Olympic flag and a handful of countries’ flags. The countries we chose to represent, are the countries that have the most users on vDream. Checking our google analytics, we can see where our hits are coming from, and these 15 or so countries are on the top of that list. If your country hasn’t been represented, go invite some people from your country!

    These items will only be available during the span of the Olympics

    We are also introducing a new concept to vDream: the concept of vDream Limited Edition Collectibles. These are items that we will throw in every now and then as little easter-egg type items which will only be available for a short time, and they may be worth a lot of vDollars down the road. So if you’re thinking about sticking around on vDream, you should grab one of these, and hold on to it for dear life. It could be worth millions of vDollars a year from now! The first vDream Limited Edition Collectible is the vDream Medallion ver. 1.

    An important note: if you plan on keeping these items, remember to uninstall them if you plan on changing your car, otherwise they will be sold along with your car!!!

    They all look awesome! Very nice! I bought all of them already. And while thinking that they were all 1k, accidently bought the Vdream Maddalion for 10k. Whoopsie! But I guess I’ll gain more money later on if i sold it? :p

    But anyways, I can’t seem to remove the flag! It’s not in the exterior part and not in anywhere.

    Oh, I know where it is, in the Accesories section, but it only shows my racing seats but in my part shed(I bought two, country and olympic) There’s my country flag in the Accesories section. Can I not remove it or is it a bug? Thanks

    This is a really cool idea, with the Olympics and all. I went ahead and purchased the rare “vDream Limited Edition Collectible,” the “vDream Medallion ver. 1.” I installed it along with the USA Flag and the “Olympic Torch” acccesory for my dashboard as well! :) I guess all I need to do is make sure to uninstall the vDream Medallion ver. 1” accessory before I sell or trade in my Viper, or else I’ll lose it. That way, I can keep it for new cars and/or just keep it in my “Parts Shed” until I want to sell it or whatever, lol… _

    This is really cool and I like it… My suggestion is that these rare items only be available from the “Parts Shop” for only like a week, maybe two weeks at the most! That way, it really IS rare to have these vDream Limited Edition Collectibles! I reall do love this app… It’s getting better and better each and every day! :-D Here is a screenshot of my Dodge Viper, all pimped out with the new Olympic parts, including the first vDream Limited Collectible:

    Yep yep, like you said Jed, the collectible items will only be available for a couple of weeks. Eventually we want to have a marketplace where users can sell and trade items, so our hope is that these first generation items will be worth a pretty penny.

    Robbie, did you figure out that flag issue? If not, please submit a bug ticket here and I will personally take a look at it.

    Now were talking! Fantastic Idea with the collectibles! Keep this going and you’ll soon get 100,000 people on this app. Oh and btw I was going through the olympic flags and I didn’t find Korea anywhere :( I know you have to invite people from there but could you make the flag anyway? (big supporter of my country but rooting on for Mike Phelps to kick some butt!)

    SAAM, the collectibles will be on until the last day of the Olypmics (August 24), so you have a couple of weeks to grab that medallion.

    PJ, I will make a special request to our artists to make a Korean flag for you. Check back in a day or two =)

    Was just wondering if this is the spot we use to make suggestions on adding cars? If so can you guys think about adding the Volvo S60 R? Its an amazing car 5 cylinder turbo, pushing 300 horses, 6 speed, AWD would be a great inbetween car before people upgrade to the muscle cars and exotics. Thanks alot guys :)
