September 15, 2008 vDream Poll 6: Drop Tops!
11:23am by Cheechoo (Site)
The warm weather of summer is almost gone, folks! Let’s get in our last fun-in-the-sun before the gloomy winter overtakes us! We’ve chosen 4 entry-level sub-$30k convertibles to be the next vDream.
We have also soft-launched a new part type – transmissions. Right now we are only offering transmissions to cars that are currently undervalued.

September 15, 2008
What about the Lotus Elise?
- 02:26pmby Christian Welter
-
September 15, 2008
S2000- elise is a great track car, not good dragging MRS – is again not a dragster
- 03:46pmby Anonymous
-
September 15, 2008
elise is not sub $30,000
- 08:02pmby preposterous platter of pumpkin pudding
-
September 15, 2008
S2000 is also not a sub-$30k car
- 08:22pmby Mike Castle
-
September 15, 2008
Ok, too bad about the price requirement then. S2000 or Elise would’ve been sweet. I voted Toyota MR2. MX-5 close second though.

September 16, 2008
Finally a Toyota…Still would love to see the MKIV Supra though… =(

-
September 16, 2008
Hi guys – Yeah, I wanted to stick with a sub-$30k price range, because I realized that our mid-level cars outnumber our base-level cars, so I wanted to throw in some cheaper cars. Trust me, me of all people wants to see an S2000 as well, it’s one of my real life dreams. Or… RLdream?

Anas MuQeem, please, check your knowledge before laughing at someone else for mentioning a very real car. Yes, in the U.S., the most powerful version of the Civic is the Civic Si, but in the Japanese, Malaysian, and European markets there is another powerful Civic: the Civic Type R that Rawad Mdawar mentioned. The most powerful Civic that I know of that Honda makes is only available in Japan: the very sexy Honda Civic Mugen RR (with 240 HP!!!). Just google either “civic type r” or “mugen rr” for proof that these cars exist. And again, next time, try not to laugh at others for being ignorant when it’s yourself that’s the ignorant one.
- 06:52pmby Christian Welter
-
September 16, 2008
Better than a google search, here’s a video with both a Civic Type R and a Civic Mugen RR racing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BrS7YyoeEjk

i know theres one over seas, but im talking about the civic si, which there already is there not going to make another one, so thats what there is
- 07:23pmby Anas MuQeem

and this is a convertible blog, not a hardtop
- 07:24pmby Anas MuQeem
-
September 16, 2008
weak variety..neither one of the car’s is drag or track worthy without sticking realistically 2-4k into it. IE engine, transmission and suspension.
i chose the GXP just for the simple fact that rhys millen drives one for the D1.
- 08:40pmby Jake Peterson
-
September 16, 2008
Exactly, that’s because they’re base-level cars =)

I love the Miata MX-5. I drove one and it was so much fun. Although it’s too small for my taste but I still like how it handles. So … yeah I picked MX-5. My 2nd choice would be the Sky… good looking piece of crap…
- 03:23amby AaRoN
-
September 17, 2008
yeah but only fags drive Civics… and its not such a cool car like these drop tops…
I say, nobody is looking at the Pontiac Solstice… it shouldve come with a v8… but was limited to a smaller engine i believe… i think there is alot of potential for the Solstice wink wink… i know its not going to win though

honda, mitsubishi cars r good, toyota cars r bad even tho toyota trucks are nice. BTW is M3 undervalued? I need either more engine parts or more cash to get that ludicrously expensive turbocharger. (22,000) It costs more than a VW GTI!
- 01:43pmby Tao Ding Ning Li
-
September 17, 2008
Sorry but I don’t believe my Supra qualifies as “bad”...Hondas aren’t bad as well…I’m not really understanding your reasoning for believing so since you stated none…Oh well
- 05:53pmby Jonathan Reich
-

instead of the mr-s u should have added the 1993.5-1998 toyota supra.. i been saving my money waiting for it to come out hahah

Hah. Hey guys, I think we should all have a mutual respect for eachother. If someone likes Honda, let them. If someone likes Ford, let them. All the animosity gets us nowhere. I’m personally a Honda guy, but if someone likes something else, I don’t give a crap, and I don’t say anything. Other people are going to like what they like no matter what you say, so at times it’s best to not say anything. Be Polite!

Hey all you douchebags, I agree with the guy above me…. I drive a ford f-150 and im not a redneck, i hate rednecks… just because you drive a certain vehicle doesnt make you a certian way… but if your gona get all upset when someone rips on your brand, maybe your are a stereotype douche. I like american muscle, but my dream car is a caterham 7. and an M3…
baisically, i like cars with alot of potential. when im gona put a bunch of money into a car, i want to be able to go really fast, not lose to corvettes because my drive wheels lift off the ground when i take off.

Formula cars are fast for sure, and used by prfessional racers not asshole Honda Boys with lil civiques.

id like to see a silvia/ 240 sx, and an s2000 personally, bc they are really good cars on the street racing scene
- 04:08amby ghostEK *USAF*
-
September 22, 2008
the 240 would need an engine swap (RB26, SR20) to even compete on the strip. the S2k has noooo TQ, the only advantage of the S2k is the weight and high RPM. the S15 would be nice, but that is also not a drag car, more of a D1. the car’s mentioned above are more for drifting than the strip.

i really do like the saturn and pontiac, but wish i would have seen a bmw, or even an audi. if not for anything else but to have a different look. i went and checked out some prices and found that you can get the 2008 bmw series-1 for $28,600 to 39,100. and the 2007 Audi A4 for $28,240-66,000. the audi is a crazy price range but is possible for under $30,000. and both are 200 plus hp vehicles with the audi optional with a 4,6 ,or 8 cylinder engine ranging from 200hp to 420hp. also there is the mitsubishi eclipse spider, and Mini Cooper S Convertible. just a few you could look into for under $30,000. just in case you want to bump in a couple extras for us to change up the look a little. keep these in mind.

your not even basing you decision on honda as an overall. you’re basing you decisions on little ricer boys. Alot of F1 cars use a Honda motor im not talking about their little branch. If you’re talking about overall, every company has their own benefits ahead of others but you’re just talking about those ricers out there. If Honda so bad as an overall company i don’t get why their vehicles sell the 2nd most vehicles.

hondas are cheap eco friendly cars thats why they sell, as for seeing a convertible i personally would rather have a t-top like a ws-6 or 2004 z06. But if i had to see a convertible that was under 30k i would go with maybe vw eos, or a lexus sc400, or the lexus sc300 with Engine Type I-6, dohc-24 valve Engine Size3.0 liter/183 cid, or maybe a old school 57 chevy bel air. I know im to late to pick but i would’ve went with the mazdaspeed mx-5

Love the MR2 Spyder, but the 1991 Toyota MR2 T-Top Turbo beats it any day. Also way under $30k. By the way, waaayy better lookin with a body kit than the new MR2 Spyder. But if I had to chose it would be the MR2 Spyder. Although like someone else said, what about the Eclipse?
